What do I need to do to become a general education teacher?
To teach general education in Ontario’s publicly funded primary and secondary schools, you need an acceptable postsecondary degree, which is at least three years of full-time study, and four semesters of teacher education coursework in an acceptable teacher education program.
Your teacher education program must include practice teaching and courses in foundations and teaching methods related to two consecutive divisions: Primary/Junior (Kindergarten to Grade 6); Junior/Intermediate (Grades 4 to 10); Intermediate/Senior (Grades 7 to 12).
