What does it mean if a member has been ordered to take coursework?
A member may be ordered to complete prescribed professional learning courses, additional basic qualifications or additional qualifications after their hearing. The Discipline Committee will typically order the member to successfully complete a course or courses that relate to the member’s misconduct. For example, in a case where a member yelled at and behaved aggressively towards students, a member might be ordered to take an anger management course.
Where a panel has ordered a member to take remedial coursework, the member must:
- Find a course practitioner who can deliver the type of course ordered by the panel. The member can contact the College for recommendations.
- Submit the Course Approval Form to the College for the Registrar’s approval.
- Pay for and take the course within the time ordered by the Committee in their decision.
- Continue to follow the Committee’s order after the member has completed the course. For example, the order might require the member to ask their course practitioner to submit the Course Completion Form to the College, on their behalf
More information about prescribed professional learning courses can be found on the College’s website.
