What information and documents are posted to the public register?
The Ontario College of Teachers Act and the College by laws set out what information must be included on the public register. For instance, the public register lists a member’s full name (former and current), the qualifications held, and membership status (e.g., good standing, suspended, revoked, among others). It also identifies whether the member has completed the online Sexual Abuse Prevention Program. If a member has been referred to the Discipline Committee, the Notice of Hearing will be posted on the public register as well an any notation of the outcome of their case. Once the hearing has been held and if found guilty, the Decision and Reasons will be posted to the public register and will remain there. If a court has imposed restrictions on a member’s eligibility to teach, these restrictions will also be included on the public register.
