What prerequisites do I need to qualify for the Principal’s Qualifications Part 1?
Applicants for Principal's Qualifications must:
- hold an acceptable postsecondary degree
- hold a Certificate of Qualification and Registration
- hold concentrations in three divisions including the intermediate division, as indicated on the applicant's Certificate of Qualification and Registration
- provide evidence of at least five years of successful teaching experience in a school providing elementary or secondary education, as certified by the appropriate supervisory officer or, in the case of experience outside Ontario, by the appropriate supervisory official, and hold or provide evidence of one of the following:
- a Specialist or Honour Specialist qualification as indicated on the applicant's Certificate of Qualification and Registration and
- successful completion of at least one-half the number of courses required to qualify for a master's degree that is an acceptable postsecondary degree, or
- an additional Specialist or Honour Specialist qualification as indicated on the applicant's Certificate of Qualification and Registration
- a master's degree or doctorate that is an acceptable postsecondary degree
- successful completion of such number of graduate postsecondary courses as is equivalent to the number of graduate postsecondary courses that are required to qualify for a master's degree that is an acceptable postsecondary degree.
These courses must be in addition to the courses required for initial certification.
